Nicola and Noor

Nicola and Noor. This also comes from beyond Wurster, but yes, needs to be included. One of those moments that register in many ways. Noor sitting with dear Nicola in her lap. Must be later in 2015. It's in my kitchen, and we'd been talking. We were always talking--from the moment she'd appear. Could be anything--like Noor's gatherings of flowers--from her walks over, picked spontaneously, each one in the perfect place. I'd take it for granted, almost--the flowers, the way she'd recount a story, from Brecht, once--also so perfectly--The Caucasian Chalk Circle--as if she'd understood its essence. Like the flowers--or the way she's holding Nicola.

How do they put it now? You can't make these things up...

Black trunk with green towel, folded. For Nicola as well. Basket with lemons. And the Laura Scudder's coffee jar, or the line of brocade. Reflected light on hallway wall, half in shadow. Feels like something from a very long time ago...

Noor's first book, El Cerrito, was published just last year (2018) by In the Castle.
