Jennifer with Flowers. This is Jen Wolch, our new dean, when she first arrived in Berkeley, ready to take on leadership of the CED. Maybe 2009. It has all her good qualities--the confident smile, her alertness, and that slight side-wise look that tells you she's thinking about what comes next... No doubt all important in a dean! I also like the way she's holding the flowers--her left hand in particular--and the way their colors align with Katie's painting (Katie Hawkinson, my wonderful co-teacher for more than a decade in the ED11A drawing class.) I see that there's another bunch in the foreground--the colors repeat. Makes a kind of triangle--a triangle of hope--for where we'll all be going together. Is that too romantic?
No, these beginnings are crucial!
