Tony Dubovsky is in the process of leaving his Wurster office—after almost five decades!—which means letting go not just of physical things, but also a revisiting of many many thoughts and memories. The photos following, together with the writing, are part of this, and I’d like to share them with you—friends and students, students and friends, over the many years. Just like one of my classes--spontaneous, inadvertent--where we can touch on anything, and opening is the goal...

Leaping Fawn
Leaping Fawn. This doesn't fit, of course--and it happened just yesterday--but I need to include it "just in case..." Out through the back window here, in the high grass--this vision--a perfect moment. Pure luck, of course--or was it inadvertency (thank you George and Eunis, from many years ago!)--the mother deer standing there just behind as this baby fawn leaped across the yard. The blur was a gift--how not, I don't know how to adjust f-stops on my iPad camera... And beautiful, of course. But the little creature is moving from right to left, which, according to Sergei Eisenstein (in Film Form and Film Sense) means that the battle will be hard won. And it's true--all good battles are hard won. Except for paintings, perhaps--where the movement of the brush and the flow of the colors are also a matter of grace...
