Tony Dubovsky is in the process of leaving his Wurster office—after almost five decades!—which means letting go not just of physical things, but also a revisiting of many many thoughts and memories. The photos following, together with the writing, are part of this, and I’d like to share them with you—friends and students, students and friends, over the many years. Just like one of my classes--spontaneous, inadvertent--where we can touch on anything, and opening is the goal...

Berkeley
Berkeley. We're at the edge of campus, upstairs in the museum. It's a Sunday, late January 2018, and there parked on the circle is my lonely 1989 Honda Civic Wagon. Actually, not so lonely, but much loved. This is one of my favorite views--swooping down to street level, all those white traffic squares, and of course, the late afternoon winter light, with the trees gold-red as they merge with the shadows. Doesn't hurt that there's a black sedan making a right turn at just the right spot--note red tail light--or two guys in a conversation we can see but will never hear. One of them is holding two cups of coffee...
I also like the reflections on the inside of the window. Including that turquoise blur above the street sign--and the big red-oxide wedge descending from the top. You never notice things when you make a picture--or at least I don't--but in some way you must know they're there...
